MOONWALKER
ANALYSIS
Non-Diegetic - The non-diegetic sounds used in this trailer is the voice over.
music- In this movie trailer the producers use a typical movie intro, that starts off at normal volume and get louder but towards the end goes quiet. This was used to built tension and suspense for a louder sound like a 'BANG', Which is shown from 0.13 to 0.18. The sound effect used at 0.18 was introduced to make the audience know that a Michael Jackson song was about to start ( The bang sound effect was to grab the audience's attention) This is because people normally react to sound sounds/noises.
Now that the loud sound effect was played, it was easy to introduce the audience to an narrator. This also because the loud sound effect had the audience's attention.
The narrators voice is deep because it effects the human mind to make them think that something is big. ( 'A study by researchers at the Georgia institute of technology and Vanderbilt University, showed that deep voices and low-pitched voices forces the Brian to think something is big', according to Mike Wehner, April 14, 2017) So, this was used this trailer to manipulate and convince the audience that Moonwalker (the movie) is going to be huge and that you can't miss it.
The sound effects are also used as introductions to a new Michael Jackson song and an ending of one. E.g 0.23 we are shown a shooting star along with the sound of one. Then in 0.24 a new song starts. The voice over narrator also speaks after a new song starts, this shows that after he speaks a new song will start. The visuals and narrators' voice enhances the sound effect. E.g when the narrator says "Beyond the stars' The audience is shown a shooting star and are more aware to the shooting star sound effect.
At 0.44 a loud echo sound effect is introduced. This creates the mood that something bed is about to happen. We are shown dark atmosphere with a cloudy sky and Michael Jackson transforming into a robot. This shows the audience what type of movie it's going to be, that it will be based on criminal fantasy and science fiction.
By the music changing, it affects the audience because the primary audience would be Michael Jackson fans, so by the music changing into another MJ song it would make the audience excited.
